In the process of composition, the structure acts as the foundation on which a song can given a sense of direction. Some structures have rules on how to compose in a specific genre, whereas other structures give the composers complete creative freedom to write whatever they like the sound of.
Some examples of musical structure include:
12 Bar Blues (1-4-5)
Song Structures E.g. Binary Form ABAB, Rondo (Canon) ABACAB etc.
Head – Solo – Head (Mainly Utilized in Jazz)
Ostinato (Playing around on one riff)
Everyone Solos, No-one Solos
Zenochrany (which Frank Zappa created)
